Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Sunday that Prime Minister Imran Khan was not going anywhere and will complete his five-year term in the office. He said the way Maryam Nawaz Sharif discussed the army at Dhobi Ghat, I could say being a political worker that when you will discuss the army at crossroads, at Dhobo Ghat and Mochi Darwaza than remember, you will be treated in politics like Dhobi Ghat.

Talking to media persons after offering condolences with Dr. Dina, the daughter of later prominent Pakistan nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the interior minister said that the misunderstanding that Imran Khan will be ousted should be cleared as he was here to stay.

The minister criticised the opposition, saying the opposition leadership was digging its own grave. “The opposition has been saying since December last year that Imran Khan is going to lose power, but it should clear any misunderstanding that it has about Imran Khan,” Sheikh Rashid said, adding that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will complete its term.

“Imran Khan is lucky to have got such incompetent and useless opposition,” the interior minister claimed.

Sheikh Rashid also criticised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif for bashing the state institutions, including the chief of the premier intelligence agency. He said it was “foolish” to call out the chief of an institution the way Maryam did, adding that the army shouldn’t be discussed in public places.

According to Rashid, “Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s departure to London [for medical treatment] was planned.” He said that Nawaz Sharif was shedding “crocodile tears” while sitting in London. If Nawaz Sharif wants to return to country, government can issue him travel documents the next day, the minister added.

Speaking about the hike in petrol prices, Sheikh Rashid said there was no doubt that Pakistan had a high inflation rate but the government was facing these challenges with strong resolve. He said that government will overcome the issue of inflation. He said the global spike in oil prices also resulted in the price hike in Pakistan, but the PTI was making all-out efforts to control inflation.

He claimed that the Pakistani rupee went into a nosedive against the US dollar due to the situation in Afghanistan. Sheikh Rashid said that 34 money changers have been apprehended and audit of the five or six money exchange firms is continuing, adding that the results of the investigations will be shared with public.

Sheikh Rashid said that he has requested Dr. Dina to furnish the design of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan’s grave, adding that after furnishing of the design the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will immediately complete the tomb of Dr. Qadeer Khan at F-8 Graveyard. Sheikh Rashid said that he has established 60 educational institutions and three women universities and is going to start construction of Nala Lai and Ring Road projects
