CJ IHC summons detailed report from Ministry of Climate Change & FBR on petition filed against import of rare animals

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned a detailed report from the Ministry of Climate Change and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on a petition filed against the import of rare animals.

On Monday Islamabad High Court heard a petition field against the import of the rare animals. Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Athar Minallah inquired that people are keeping lions in their houses; FBR should tell how they were imported.

The court ordered to submit report about all species of the rare animals on the next hearing of the case. The lawyer of FBR informed the court that during last three years not a single elephant was imported to Pakistan.

Chief Justice IHC Athar Minallah remarked that he has not asked only about the elephants, adding that how other animals are being imported. Chief Justice IHC inquired that why no representative from FBR appeared before the court. CJ IHC inquired that how the lions and Giraffes are being imported in Pakistan, adding that the animals of rare species are imported and kept in worst conditions in Pakistan.

The Ministry of Climate change declared the matter of keeping animals at homes by people as provincial matter and informed that this did not fall in the jurisdiction of federal government. Justice Athar Minallah while addressing the representative of ministry of climate change remarked that you should not say this, adding that implementation of the international agreements is the job of Pakistani government, whether Pakistani government did not enjoy authority to get implement the international agreements. Chief justice IHC addressing the representative of the ministry of climate change said that whether she was trying to say that Pakistan was violating the international agreements.

The representative of the ministry stated that the Ministry of Climate Change was not violating the agreements. The CJ IHC remarked that the Ministry of Climate Change is violating the agreement as the species of rare race are being imported and Ministry of Climate Change has not given the permission of import of these animals.

The CJ IHC further remarked that the animals are being imported whether the Ministry of Climate Change has asked from FBR. The representatives of Ministry of Climate Change and FBR failed to satisfy the court regarding the matter. The court has again summoned the detailed report from both institutions.
